Hosting made easy with cPanel

While not necessarily a cPanel Bug, since so many of our customers are cPanel users, it was best to fit the issue here.  Basically there is an issue with SpamAssassin since the roll over of the date to 01/01/2010.

Spam Assassin has an issue in that it automatically sets the spam score to 3.19 for any mail that is sent (or received) during the 2010 year.  This issue has already been addressed on all Hands-on Web Hosting Server through an automatic server update, but if you’re running your own server or a VPS machine, you may want to sit up and take notice of the commands needed to resolve the issue.

You can do one of two things;

  1. You can do nothing.  If you have enabled the feature for Automatic Updates, there’s nothing to do.  The system will automatically take care of the bug when maintenance runs on your server.
  2. Upgrade cPanel to the latest version in whatever flavor you are running (Edge, Current, Release, Stable).
  3. Manually run an update script – /scripts/autorepair spamd_y2010_fix

If you have questions or problems, please see the official cPanel SpamAssassin Announcement – http://www.cpanel.net/2010/01/spam-assassin-ruleset-bug.html
You may also contact Hands-on Web Hosting at http://support.handsonwebhosting.com if you are a client and operating on a VPS or Dedicated Server.  Our system admins can assist in executing the upgrade for you.
